What Is a Laser Screed?

A laser screed is a self-propelled machine that uses a rotating laser beam and a hydraulically controlled screed head to strike off and consolidate concrete to a precise elevation — automatically.

While a traditional hand screed relies on the skill and stamina of the crew, a laser screed reads the laser plane thousands of times per minute and makes micro-adjustments in real time. The result is a slab that is measurably flatter, denser, and more consistent from edge to edge.

How We Use It

Grade & Sub-Base Prep

Before the laser screed ever touches concrete, we verify the sub-base is compacted and graded correctly. A laser screed can't fix a bad base — so we don't skip this step.

Laser Setup & Calibration

We set the rotating laser transmitter and dial in the elevation. The screed head receiver locks onto the beam and holds that plane for the entire pour.

Pour & Strike-Off

As concrete is placed, the laser screed moves across the slab, striking off excess material and consolidating the surface in a single pass.

Hand Finishing & Curing

The laser screed does the heavy lifting. Our crew follows behind with hand tools for edges, joints, and final surface texture — then we cure it right.
